Ukrainian born, New Zealand singer/songwriter VïKÆ (Veronika Bell) has been lurking in the shadows quietly plotting away at something special. Teaming up with Dunedin born producer Abigail Knudson (MISSY), the smooth songstress emerges with ‘Truth’. The song is a compelling dive into the mind of VïKÆ as her haunting vocals tell a story of self-discovery, trauma, and escapism.
The negative stigma of mental illness is unfortunately still highly prevalent in New Zealand, with hushed whispers usually surrounding the topic. But Veronika is trying to change that. Drawing from her own battles with mental health, ‘Truth’ is a compelling and provocative piece to which the artist describes as a “form of healing”.
VïKÆ weaves her story of emotion across swirling soundscapes and punchy bass, providing an intricate platform for storytelling and melody. With a background in Jazz Orchestra and an honours degree in contemporary voice performance, VïKÆ is no stranger to grand performances. This training is evident in ‘Truth’, as we see her voice shine over the lush instrumentation.
Acting as her debut single, ‘Truth’ reveals there is a lot to be excited about for the dynamic singer.
