Tommie: Better

August 23, 2019

Tommie is that girl hidden away in the music room at lunchtime. The one who bunked math class to play in the high school band. After loosening from the clutch of small-town life, the singer-songwriter-producer and multi-instrumentalist moved to the big city where she enrolled in music college. Eventually dropping out, Tommie once again packed her laptop and moved into her aunt’s garage. With a fresh dose of determination, she soon began recording her ‘don’t give a damn’ tunes and released them on Soundcloud. Tommie quickly gained an online following and began performing intimate shows around her local Auckland City.

Following the release of her breakout single ‘Better’, which was featured on NZ on Air’s New Tracks compilation, comes ‘Dumb’. An ode to a former lover, ‘Dumb’ is a new pop anthem from the Auckland crooner. Filled with charm and sass, the young artist swoons over a bouncy early 2000’s RnB inspired beat co-produced by EDY.

Tommie reminisces over a past relationship to paint a picture of distrust and wrong decisions. Lamenting over feelings of betrayal, ‘Dumb’ breaks free from the drama seeing the artist take a step forward in the healing process.

With an unfortunately all too relatable story, ‘Dumb’ seeks to cement itself as the next big post break-up sing along track. Listen below;
