New Zealand’s newest indie-pop daydreamer RIIKI has finally arrived on the music scene with her long-awaited debut single ‘One Day’. The track is an entrancing pop tune with a head-in-the-clouds, watching the world go by type of feel.
The shimmery new release was both written and produced by RIIKI, who explains the track has been in development for a while just “waiting for its moment”.
Filled with gliding synths and reverbed vocal layers, ‘One Day’ is an elegantly arranged piece of indie-pop that cements RIIKI as an artist on the rise and one to watch.
‘One Day’ seeks to encapsulate who RIIKI is an artist, as she explains, “The track is about desiring that one day where something you really want will be right where you want it to be, whether that is a dream, goal or a person. You dream about it so much that it absorbs every part of your brain, wishing you had it. The track ultimately puts you in a dream state thinking about your own ‘One Day’ thoughts.”
Recorded in Wellington, and mixed and engineered by Roundhead Studio’s Simon Gooding (who has worked with the likes of Dua Lipa, Pink, Drax Project), ‘One Day’ is testament to a big future for the multi-talented artist in the New Zealand music scene.
After spending the year cooped up in her bedroom writing songs, RIIKI is finally ready to share them with the world. Check out ‘One Day’ below;
