Rei returns with the catchy new single ‘Borderline’.
Getting back to his singer/songwriter roots, ‘Borderline’ is a stripped-back release for Rei. In ‘Borderline’, Rei sings about the fine line between being in love or lust with someone. As he explains, “Borderline is about that space between a full-on relationship and a casual fling. That space where you want to keep seeing someone, but you’re also scared shitless of relationships and heartbreak because of past trauma.”
With co-writing credits from Djeisan Suskov, one of the core writers for NZ pop sensation Benee, ‘Borderline’ is an incredibly catchy release.
Coming off the back of winning ‘best hip-hop album’ at the Māori music awards Rei has been keeping busy.
Alongside the release of the single is a video for ‘Borderline’. Directed by Rei and Huia Hamon, the video’s concept is kept simplistic and focuses on Rei’s performance as he indulges the fun, romanticism of the track.
