Emerging as one of the most exciting new acts in New Zealand’s bustling pop scene, ASHY, is back with her third single of the year, ’Pretty Lies’.
Just in time for summer, ‘Pretty Lies’ is a slice of pop-dance perfection packed with electrifying melodies, unforgettable hooks and an exciting drop, solidifying ASHY’s growing reputation as an ‘artist to watch’.
“‘Pretty Lies’ is about being in a place where you want so much more for your life because you’re stuck in the day to day,” says ASHY. “But rather than trying to solve your problems, you avoid the truth and call up your friends who are, in their own ways, also telling themselves pretty lies – convincing ourselves that we are fulfilled, even if it’s just for one night.”
Co-written and produced by Sydney-based Liam Quinn (Theia, Boi), ‘Pretty Lies’ came together quite naturally when the two were working in the studio.
“This is a very fun song, a song to sing along to with your friends. With its lyrically deeper meaning, the production of the song helps communicate the idea that these truths are hidden behind big beats and catchy hooks,” explains ASHY.
No stranger to success, ‘Pretty Lies’ comes off the back off two impressive singles already released in 2019. Landing on a series of streaming playlists, and working with producers such as Josh Fountain (Bene, Theia, Paige), the young artist has been putting together an impressive portfolio.
