And$um: Every Other Week

August 3, 2020

Teaming up with fellow Christchurch native in producer Liam k. Swiggs, “Every Other Week” is a fun and funky piece of hip-hop. The first release following his 14-track debut album “And$um Volume 1”, “Every Other Week” is a fine return to form for And$um.

Cementing himself as one of the trailblazers in the Christchurch hip-hop scene “Every Other Week” is the start of a new journey for the Ōtautahi native. With smooth flows and vibrant delivery, And$um shows his signature charismatic rapping once again on this new single.

Speaking on the track And$um explains, “after putting out an album I just wanted to do something fun. Liam sent me the track and it just had so much character to it. The track is really about getting into the routine of life and how you can keep doing the same things all the time. I wanted to kind of have some fun with that and say if you’re doing the things you love it’s never going to feel routine or boring.”

The production on the track from producer Liam k. Swiggs perfectly complements the song’s contemplative lyrics. The beat is driven by a groovy bassline, bouncy drums and a soulful vocal sample that comes together to set a bright and colourful mood.

Already with a slew of releases behind him the 23-year-old And$um reveals he has no plans of slowing down. “I just love making music, I find it hard to stop. I recently got diagnosed with ADHD and I feel that’s really affected the way I approach things.”

With soulful sampling and a mellow flow, ‘Every Other Week’ is another fine release for the Christchurch artist. One that shows that And$um’s consistency is matched only by his talent for crafting a song.
