First featured on our ‘Behind The Booth’ series, And$um is a young hip-hop artist beginning to carve out a real identity. Hailing from the sleepy port town of Lyttelton, the 22-year-old returns with an 8-track EP titled ‘Sunshine/Rain’.
Exploring feelings brought upon by the weather, ‘Sunshine/Rain’ tackles the duality of And$um’s music, as he explains there are two sides to his writing process.
“I like to make fun up-tempo songs that are carefree, then I like to make more introspective mellow tracks. My music takes on different shapes depending on my mood and I want the EP to reflect this. Generally, in the sunshine you feel happy and then the rain brings upon more somber feelings. However, I don’t think it’s always as simple as that. So, the project looks to explore the ideas of happiness and sadness and the creativity they inspire.”
‘Sunshine/Rain’ comes off the back of his last full-length tape ‘Gone Again’, which was featured on Spotify’s homepage and a variety of editorial playlists. Recently opening for Bobandii and Fable on their NZ tour, the young Christchurch artist has been making a splash in the local scene.
With the lead single ‘Up’ featured on Spotify’s New Music Friday, there is a lot to be excited about for the versatile artist. Check out the full project below;
